So you are ready to go break the bank at Vegas, or maybe you\’re just headed down to poker night at the community center. Wherever you are going, knowing a few simple rules will definitely help you through your evening of gambling and make the experience much more fun.
Remember the whole \”Everything I need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten\” movement? Yeah, this doesn\’t apply to casino etiquette. Well mostly doesn\’t, the being nice part you should do everywhere you go. So here are some common faux pas people often make on their first few trips to the house of chance.
The tables are often where all the action is. It\’s a good time for everyone and can get a little rowdy from time to time. The important thing to remember about learning a new game is to observe if for a while before you sit down. Sitting down does more than imply you are going to play, it actually means you are going to play. So be prepared to ante up when you grab a piece of real estate by the big green.
Making friends with the dealer is often a good idea. A friendly dealer is apt to give you a pointer or two. They won\’t deal you cards that will make it easier to win, but they can give some pointers on the ones you end up with. They see hundreds of players a day, so they might have some game insights you have never thought of. For the novice, this help can be invaluable.
Remember though, you are not playing the deal, you are playing the house. The dealer does not get to choose much about what they do, in fact they don\’t get to pick anything at all. They are held to a strict set of rules and breaking them will result in termination and a revocation of their license. So if you are consistently loosing you might want to realize two things: it\’s not the dealer\’s fault and the one person playing every single hand has been you.
Drinks are the other biggie in the casino, and probably one of my favorite one too. If you are playing, they will often bring you drinks on the house, definitely take advantage of this, but try not to go Forrest Gump on it. Even though the drinks are free, tipping the server is still a good thing. Try to remember they do work for tips.
Free drinks are my favorite. I like them much better than the kind you have to pay for. While you are gambling, you will be offered drinks every so often. Take advantage of these and enjoy! The house definitely wants you to stay comfortable and to keep on playing. Just make sure you take care of your server. They work hard and people often forget to tip them. Doing so might mean you get your free drinks more often.
Knowing these few things will help increase your enjoyment at the casino. This is too true. Not following these simple rules might leave you feeling a little embarrassed in addition to having less money. I\’d rather be broke and happy… but being rich and happy is better.
